I tried a TBR jar!

I tried something new last weekend: a TBR jar!
For some time now, I’ve created a TBR basket, where I place the books I’ve been wanting to try for the first time or re-read. But then I decided to throw something else into the mix: a TBR jar! I wrote down the titles of each book in my basket on slips of paper and then drew out the first tag.
What was the first book? Comet in Moominland by Tove Jansson. By now I have read all of the Moomin books, but I’d been wanting to revisit the first couple of books in particular. So I read Comet on Saturday, which was a total delight, and I eagerly finished it so I could have the fun of drawing the next tag.
Book two? The Well-Wishers by Edward Eager. While I enjoy all of Eager’s magical books, The Well-Wishers is definitely the least magical and on my first read, I felt it didn’t quite have the charm of some of the others. But I enjoyed it more this time around, especially because the characters are so well-drawn.
The third tag I drew was for One to Grow On by Jean Little. I first read this a few years ago and wanted to re-read it because of the lovely setting: part of the book is set on a tiny Muskoka island, purchased on a whim by the main character’s flamboyant godmother. So fun!
Those were the three books I read over the weekend. Then on Monday night I pulled out another tag: Jane of Lantern Hill by L.M. Montgomery. I’d been wanting to re-read it for a while now, so this was perfect timing! It’s such a great spring book. I finished it yesterday and then pulled out the first book in the Trixie Belden series, The Secret of the Mansion. Yet another re-read! But I have to go along with the TBR jar. 😉 So I’m about 60 pages into it and looking forward to what title I will choose next.
I recommend a TBR jar for anyone who wants a little extra fun with their reading life! Have you ever tried one?
