Favorite Books of 2025

It’s time to list some of my favorite books of 2025! I wanted to try something different this year, so I’ve made some graphics that include some of my very favorite books that I read for the first time in 2025.
Here they are!
π THE LIBRARY OF UNRULY TREASURES by Jeanne Birdsall (a lovely new story from the author of the Penderwicks series)
π PICTURES OF HOLLIS WOODS by Patricia Reilly Giff (an emotional, moving Newbery book)
π MARJORIE’S MAYTIME by Carolyn Wells (a delightful vintage book, the fifth in the Marjorie series)
π YOURS TRULY by Heather Vogel Frederick (the fun second book in the Pumpkin Falls mystery series)

π ALICE ATHERTON’S GRAND TOUR by Lesley M.M. Blume (a vivid, charming MG set in 1927!)
π FRANKLIN ENDICOTT AND THE THIRD KEY by Kate DiCamillo (one of the Deckawoo Drive chapter books, funny but beautiful and deep)
π MAMA’S CHICKEN AND DUMPLINGS by Dionna L. Mann (a breezy MG with an irrepressible protagonist)
π THE HOTEL BALZAAR by Kate DiCamillo (a short MG novel with elements ofΒ A Little Princess)

π GINGERSNAP by Patricia Reilly Giff (a sweet, hopeful story set in WWII)
π WAITING FOR THE MAGIC by Patricia MacLachlan (an enchanting contemporary from the author of Sarah, Plain and Tall)
π HEIDI by Johanna Spyri (a classic for a reason! Powerful, beautiful, and engrossing.)
π BEAUTIFUL GLIMPSE by Stephanie Nygaard (the best poetry I’ve read in a long time, full of heartwarming and inspiring themes)

Do you see any favorites on my list? Which books did you discover for the first time in 2025? I’d love to hear! Feel free to leave a comment. π

I did love YOURS TRULY, but none of these that have done super well with my students. I did have a conversation about Heidi with a student who is working her way through the ANNE OF GREEN GABLES books, but she’s the first student in 15 years to make it past the first book. I wonder why older generations of readers loved historical fiction so much, and today’s readers have to be actively persuaded to pick it up.
I read The Library of Unruly Treasures this fall and just loved it. I also listened to the audio of Heidi for the first time, back in the spring and enjoyed it as well. I havenβt read any of these others, but will look for them. Thanks for the recommendations!
