I’m currently working on a series of upper middle grade historical novels based on the life of my great-grandmother. The first book in the series, Waiting for Yesterday, tells the story of a passionate but passive 14-year-old girl who longs to find stability following her parents’ divorce. At first, Norvia Nelson has trouble resigning herself to this foreign and altered reality—especially after her mother marries a widower with a family of his own. But as she gains wise advice from an unlikely source and discovers the inspirational world of books, Norvia realizes that she can shape her own story as she navigates her first year of high school, pursues a one-sided romance, and faces the challenges of a blended family.
This novel is a hybrid between the coming-of-age stories of L.M. Montgomery and the classic childhood adventure tales of Elizabeth Enright.
Other books I’m currently writing and/or editing:
— A YA novel featuring two aspiring Olympians in 1935
— A historical novel of secrets and romance in an English village in 1939
— A middle grade about three children who are sent to live with their estranged relatives and stumble upon a myriad of mysteries
