I’m currently working on a series of upper middle grade historical novels based on the life of my great-grandmother. The first book in the series tells the story of a passionate but passive 14-year-old girl who longs to find stability following her parents’ divorce. At first, Norvia Nelson has trouble resigning herself to this foreign and altered reality—especially after her mother marries a widower with a family of his own. But as she gains wise advice from an unlikely source and discovers the inspirational world of books, Norvia realizes that she can shape her own story as she navigates her first year of high school, pursues a one-sided romance, and faces the challenges of a blended family.
This novel is a hybrid between the coming-of-age stories of L.M. Montgomery and the classic childhood adventure tales of Elizabeth Enright.
Other books I’m currently writing and/or editing:
— A middle grade set in England, featuring four irrepressible siblings and the mysteries of time travel
— A secret novelette (!)
— A sweet romance set in the 1930s at a summer home in northern Michigan
