If you love Louisa May Alcott, then I hope you will try Girl of the Limberlost by Gene Stratton Porter. It is a dear, dear story, set in Indiana just after the lumbermen had changed the face of the forests there, -but the Limberlost remained. It is not sad or preachy, but like the March girls in Little Women, the main character must face up to difficult circumstances. A truly winsome growing-up novel for all ages.

I love this post so much, thank you, Anna Rose! It's such a neat way to organize similar book suggestions, and also perfect timing, as I'm rereading Little Women right now. Anne of Green Gables is my suggestion. :)

I read the first Patty Fairfield book at your recommendation, and it gave me major Alcott vibes in the writing style and Patty's decision-making process. For a lesser known Alcott I'd recommend A Garland for Girls; aspiring writer, Up a Road Slowly by Irene Hunt; creative siblings, Theater Shoes by Noel Streatfeild.

I love your list, especially since it has books I haven't read, and I second Julie's recommendation of An Old Fashioned Girl!

Thanks for the list! Great idea. I'm wondering if the Five Little Peppers Series might have appeal for fans of Little Women. The earlier ones are pitched for a little bit younger audience, but they have similar settings and time periods and the family is very close, with a strong mother.

I am also a fan of Alcott's other girls' stories - Eight Cousins and Rose in Bloom, and An Old Fashioned Girl. And of course Little Men!
